10 Principles to Unite America
Our Common Purpose’s 10 Principles to Unite America are a set of high-minded ideals that were developed in grass-roots fashion and then endorsed by large majorities of poll respondents across political affiliations.
The 10 principles seek to rise above and beyond partisan politics to outline even-handed ambitions for the nation. The principles sound familiar but they have been constructed to bridge differences. They look both to the past and to the future, remind us of what we hold dear as Americans and at the same time challenge us to do better. In broad strokes, the principles wed our values and our reality in what could be taken as a broad agenda for the country.
In survey after survey conducted over the past five years by Survey USA, the principles have drawn strong agreement in nearly equal percentages from a super majority of Republicans, Democrats and independents. Of the minority who don’t strongly agree, most at least somewhat agree.
